So Friday night turned out to be less than a fun evening for us. It started off just fine. My mom came over, the boys were fed and in their pajamas. We left around 6:10 to get to Greg's party. We figured it was about 3 miles away. I hate being late so I was pushing Greg to get through one light - we did, without rushing, I swear!
And then. We turned on to the street where the hotel is located and were talking about...soccer, I think. And bam! The car shook and shuddered, I glanced over and saw a flash of beige, and then we just...I don't even remember. We sort of stopped but then kept going to get around the corner. It was super dark so we stopped under a streetlight. It was kind of scary but luckily we had taken the minivan (the Lexus needed a new headlight, so we didn't want to drive it at night). The front bumper took a solid bump, and part of the under part (not sure what it's called) was dragging on the ground. That was the scariest part - as we drove along to get to the streetlight, it felt like the car was dragging something along...we didn't know if it was the deer or what! It wasn't the deer, thankfully.
So, after a few minutes discussion, we decided to come home and file the claim. We called my mom so she wouldn't be surprised. I'm sort of glad we came home, as Nate was screaming when we walked in. Mom hadn't tried the bottle yet but I don't know if that would have helped. Anyway, Mom decided to head home (she had been up since 5 a.m. to get to work early to get off early to come help us) and we decided to get Outback take out. No, not venison. We did look for the deer on our way home but didn't see him. So hopefully he was a big guy who just took a glancing hit with our car. Seriously, we would have avoided him but NEVER saw him coming.
The ironic thing is that my brother hit a deer last Wednesday on his way home from work. He was going a bit faster than us (he was on a highway and we were on a regular road), and his car was really beat up. Not sure about the status of the deer.
So all's well that end's well. I guess. Of course now we have to get the car fixed. Great timing with Christmas and all. Gggrrr.
Besides that, and the Outback which killed my points for the day (although I have to say we did split a meal and I took a much smaller amount!), the weekend was very nice. We drove up to Annapolis yesterday (in the Lexus, with the boys very cozy in their car seats in the back) and had a lovely visit with Mollie and Steve. James loves to play with their dog, Chef. And he is always interested in seeing their cats (who are not as interested in him, of course).
Today we did house stuff, Greg took James to his swim class, I did lots of laundry and cleaning, then I hit Trader Joe's and then friends came for dinner. Very fun.
I've been up since 5:30 a.m. so I'm headed to bed!
