Weekend Fun

This past weekend was full of both family and friend fun. My good friend Rachel (from W&M) came to town for a conference and stayed with us. I don't have any photos of the debauchery on Friday or Saturday nights, but she will be sending them soon, so stay tuned. Friday night we just hung here and stayed up too late.

Saturday morning I made my first of three trips to the downtown DC area - that's a LOT. I dropped her off at the conference, then came home to get my little family out the door. We headed to a family fall festival day at Great Country Farms. It was so fun! We went on a tractor ride, then got a pumpkin, then watched pig races. It was nice to have the moms group hang out with husbands too - so they can see that we are not a cult. :) So we had a potluck, went down some slides, and in general, James loved it. I was exhausted from the previous night two bottles of wine!

Saturday night Greg and James took me downtown to meet up with Rachel and her friends from graduate school. We had a drink at the hotel first (the site of a big Italian-American foundation dinner as well, so we saw lots of sparkly dresses, badly held-up cleavages, and men who looked scary). Anyway, then we went down and had dinner and pink champagne (dinner was cheeseburgers - you can take the girls out of the country.....). Very fun. Then went for another drink in the saloon downstairs. Then walked up to take Christy to her hotel - on the way, stopping in at The Russia House for a round of flavored vodkas. Six double shots - $40. Yikes. They were good - my favorite was the wildberry. Then I bought Rachel a special shot for her birthday. :) We dropped Christy off, then decided to walk to the Orange Line so as to get a cab in The Commonwealth - a lot less sketchy than taking a non-metered DC cab. On the way, we stopped for beers at Big Hunt and Madhatters. I felt like I was in my 20s again. Except for the mom muffin top, wedding ring, and hidden exhaustion. A bunch of Marines walked in and we took off. Metroed out to Ballston, then cabbed from there.

Needless to say, yesterday I was REALLY exhausted. I stayed in my jammies all day. So of course James woke up today at 5:30 a.m. TORTURE.
