Today was a great day, and I will post photos hopefully tomorrow. We decided to go to the Fairfax County Police open house day with Josh, Megan, and their kids Benjamin and Elizabeth (Elizabeth was born just two weeks before Nate). We met up there and enjoyed catching up with them (I hadn't seen Megan since late June since we both had the babies in July and then August just was too crazy with the newborns) and the boys (the little boys, not Greg and Josh, although they enjoyed it all too) visited fire trucks, a police helicopter, a police boat, and the paddy wagon. Benjamin (age 3) sat in the back of a police car and Josh jokingly said to the policeman, "Well, looks like he's getting used to it early." Nnniiiiccceee. :)
After that, we hit Potbelly for lunch - takeout, actually. James ate over 1/2 of his turkey sandwich, wow! Nate was either sleeping or nursing the entire time, by the way. Anyway, we tried to get James down for his nap, but it just didn't take. I figured as much, since he didn't wake up today until 8:30. It was so great to just sleep (albeit with Nate next to me, but whatever) late! (when did 8:30 get to be late? Oh, yes, duh.). James did stay in his room for over an hour until we just decided he should come out. He's gotten better about staying in his room, which is good. So, anyway, the Hokies were playing so we went downstairs to do laundry and watch the game. I got Nate down for a quick nap and then I went out for a jog. It was hot today but it felt good to exercise. Came home JUST as Nate was waking up. Sigh. No real break for Mom!
We all had dinner and Nate took a short cat nap. We got James down quickly and early since he didn't nap and then Nate didn't fall asleep until 9. Oy. I knew he was tired but he literally didn't fall asleep until I left his quiet and dark room and went downstairs, talked to Greg, and watched football with lights on. Huh?! Oh, well, he's sleeping now. Must go check on him soon.
Oh, and I must share our Target experience from after Wee Play yesterday. Speaking of, James loved the class, which reminds me of his preschool day but shortened and with me there. We get to Target and we got everything on our list pretty easily (Nate in the Bjorn, following a front seat diaper change). At check out, my back pack knocked over some Goldfish, which a very nice (obviously a mom) woman helped pick up. She said, "Your hands look a little full" with a sympathetic laugh. I'll say. We get to the car and I think I bribed James with fruit snacks (this time we got Nemo and Cars ones!) while I nursed Nate. Upon opening Nate's door something fell out of the car. It was the shampoo. It rolled under TWO CARS before stopping. I strapped in both children and then was CRAWLING on the ground for a $1.49 bottle of Suave shampoo (I actually BELIEVE those commercials where the mom gets beautiful hair from using cheap-o Suave...damnit, someday I'll look like that). Anyway, the same nice woman who saw me in check out helped point out the bottle as being wedged under the car's tire. I yelled thank you and then said, "I need a drink." Her response was, "Hey, it's 5 o'clock somewhere." I think my further response was, "5 o'clock? It's noon!".
The adventures continue...
