Update on Nate the Great

Greg took Nate for his 15 month appointment last Monday while I had a lovely post-marathon massage. I am glad that Greg went on his own (for the first time), although he did feel badly about the questions he semi-fudged the answers for. In any case, Nate did great and IS great. Here are his stats:

Height: 33 inches (95%)
Weight: 24 pounds (50%)
Head: not sure about actual inches, but, 90% - his noggin goes out pretty far in the back, so you wouldn't think it was that big. :)

He received his MMR vaccine and the regular flu and H1N1 flu vaccines. Because this is the first year he's getting one/both flu vaccines, he's supposed to get a booster in a month. But there's a shortage of the vaccines, so we'll see. Hopefully he's protected enough. I am not an over the top worrier about things of this nature. Not because I don't take them seriously, but, I feel like there is a hysteria that is somewhat unfounded. My children are, knock on wood and thank God, extremely healthy. James has been on antibiotics once his whole life and neither boy has ever had an ear infection. And, this is James's second year of preschool. Yes, they've had colds and last year Nate had 8 colds in his first 8 months of life. But I think he's built up an excellent immunity. I also have to pat Greg and myself on the back because we are pretty healthy people. We almost never get sick, again, of course, knocking on wood. The funny thing is, I used to get sick 1-2 times a year when I was in college and working full time. But the later into my 20s and early 30s I got, the less I got sick. Perhaps age? In any case, I was worried that having kids would get me more sick. But in fact, Greg has only had to take 2 half days from work off to be home with the kids when I was too sick to function....and, one of those days was last week after the marathon. So that was really a luxury. The other 1/2 day was last spring when I had such a horrible migraine I couldn't function. Otherwise, the days Greg has had to take off were for when I gave birth.

Sounds like I'm tooting my horn and turning the post away from Nate. So sorry. :) Other than his stats, he is developing very well, he is happy and sweet and wonderful. His comprehension is awesome -- for example, the other night Greg said, "Nate, if you don't stop hitting me you'll have to go in time out." Nate turned around and walked over to the time out chair in the dining room. He climbed up and waited. It was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. He's starting to try to say "yogurt", "ball", "Elmo" (nice, huh?), "milk", "up" and of course "mama" and "dada". I would not say that anyone other than me can understand him though!

Greg wisely delayed Nate's HiB and polio vaccine for a month as he felt 5 shots were too many for one day. I applauded that decision and fully agree with it. We are not on a vaccine schedule besides the usual one, but, I agree that 5 shots in one day is too many for ANYONE.

Nate is great and we love him so. And I also love that his eyes are now my color- changed from blue to green/hazel. Yea!!! :)
