Tummy Bugs = Not For Wimps

I thought things were better on Thursday, so, I sent James to school. Nate and I went to Target and a playdate, came home, hung out, went to music class, etc. Bedtime was fine and relatively normal for both boys.

Midnight: "Mommy, Mommy!"

Uh oh.

I went into James's room where he was clutching his stomach and crying in pain. I brought him to my bed (mistake) where I thought if we cuddled he'd go back to sleep.

He puked. In my hand. On my shirt. On his jammies. On my sheets. On the dry clean only comforter.

We rushed into the bathroom and cleaned up and changed our clothes. Our room stunk but I was so tired I didn't notice.

An hour later: same thing. But this time he puked in a convenient plastic cup by the side of the bed.

At this point I realized I was dealing with something I, luckily, didn't know much about.

James managed to fall back asleep fitfully. Then, at 3:30 a.m., Nate woke up and screamed like there was an actual monster in his room. I mean, SCREAMING. We've had trouble with his sleep lately but this sounded horrible. I went and brought him in our room too. We all fell asleep again.

4:30 a.m. - James woke up again in terrible pain. In the process of getting him to the bathroom (Greg had fallen asleep on the couch downstairs and was coming upstairs at that point), I had to wake Nate up. So at that point I started crying and told Greg to handle James. Within a few minutes it was obvious that Nate was wide awake so I couldn't put him in his crib. We all went back to the stinky big bed.

It took me another hour to get Nate to fall asleep. You'd think by then I'd fall asleep immediately.

You would be mistaken.

Nate's nose was so congested that when he fell asleep he snored like an overweight man.

So after all that, I moved down to the couch to sleep for a few hours.

Friday morning, James got sick one more time and then had diarrhea (sorry) for a few hours. Everything seemed to stop an hour after lunch. All afternoon James was fine and had a slight fever, but at bedtime was very tired and ready to sleep. Both boys were in bed and asleep by 7:30. We had been in the house, again, ALL DAY. Greg worked from home and my parents brought dinner over. We watched part of Bruno until I couldn't handle how gross it was and then I went up to bed.

I was asleep at 9:47.

I just hoped that we would all sleep through the night. Happily, we did! Nate woke up at 6:15. I didn't want to get up then BUT I'll take it.

So now I know what it's like to deal with a tummy bug - not fun. Hoping this is our last illness of the winter.

Dare I dream??
