We have come to the point with James where sometimes we have to stay with him until he falls asleep for naps. Greg is better about being firm with him. I admit I am not as I'm frustrated and exhausted these days. Luckily today James went down pretty easily, although I had to re-enter his room and change his pillowcase from the new Curious George one (which he cried for last night) back to his Under Construction one. The kid baffles me. But apparently this worked, as I lay down and stroked his hair and mentioned all of his friends and family who take naps after lunch. Do white lies count as real lies?
Anyway, the Mission Impossible right now is me getting up and out of his room without him waking...you'd think this would be easy. Ah, no, not at this girth and three days from the due date. I lay there thinking, "Huh, how should I do this today? Crawl out? Roll over and over until I get out of the room (no, the door ISN'T that wide)? Pray I figure out how to levitate in the next two minutes?". In the end, I pushed my big butt up and walked out, very slowly. I just tried to avoid the loose ceramic tile underneath the carpeting in his room so that no squeaks would be heard. Sigh.
An update: I made it to my dinner and James had a fantastic time at Christina's. Greg got home, got James, got dinner, and got him to bed, all after 12 hours in the car. Bless him. What a good guy. We are now all happy that Greg is home and patiently waiting for baby. Some more patiently than others. Every time I call Greg he asks if he should come home and my mom calls daily to check on me. I keep on hearing that "I'll know when I know". Well, folks, I think it's this Friday with the full moon. I'd rather not go over the weekend with the random hairy-armed doctor, but whatever. It's the NURSES who really count.
Now I'm off to make more muffins, clean the bathrooms, and take a nap. Oh, and fetch Roomba, who apparently just finished vacuuming downstairs. What a lovely development from modern technology.
