It's been raining off and on since yesterday, which is great considering how dry it's been. But it's tough on a toddler. Luckily we've beeen busy. Yesterday (Thursday) we went into Arlington and played at Jen A's house with her and her boys Will and Wes. James and Will are about 9 months apart (as are Wes and Nate - somehow I get pregnant when Jen gives birth - makes sense since our weddings were almost exactly a year apart. Oh, and we married college roommates.). Anyhoo, it was very fun. They were getting new carpeting so the "big boys" were entranced with the "guys" working. Then we ordered lunch and hung out and got home around 2 for nap. Elizabeth called during nap and invited us over for post-nap playtime. James was thrilled when he woke up as he has a man crush on Matthew. :) So that was a nice Thursday afternoon.
We had dinner when we got home and then I was inspired to go jogging. I did a two mile loop and felt really good about it. Not good about how heavy my body felt, but good about just being out there and doing it. I'd also lifted some weights earlier in the day so it was a good exercise day for me. I hope to continue this slowly but surely. I don't want to become the person I used to be -- the person who beat herself up if she didn't work out EVERY SINGLE DAY. But 2-3 times a week seems reasonable and do-able.
Unfortunately, Nate was very fussy last night so I was pre-occupied with him for a long while. Just very gassy. I'm hoping this is a phase. Greg and James went to Target and got some more puzzles, so that was a nice outing for them. Anyway, Nate ended up sleeping with me the entire night because he would NOT be happy in the crib. Sigh.
Today has been a good day. We hosted playgroup and it was very fun. Beth brought over bran muffins - YUM. Then we had lunch and James went down for nap. I got him down earlier since he was up before 7 today. He's been in his room now for over two hours so I think he was tired. I got Nate in his crib around 2 and he woke up around 2:45. This seems to be his new thing (considering he's 5 weeks old his "new thing" could last a day or two and seem neverending) - he sleeps and then wakes quite often. He fell back asleep when I got him (don't want him to cry it out because a) he's too young and b) God forbid he wake up James) and is now currently snoozing on my chest. Huh, this is how he slept last night for HOURS. I think he slept like 4 hours straight because he was so worn out from fussing. Of course, I was exhausted too so I have no memory of when he woke to nurse. So far today he seems less pained. Let's hope this is true.
We have a busy but not weekend planned. Tomorrow we are going to Annapolis to see Mollie and Steve. I'm praying the traffic on 50 is bearable, although they are doing work on the Bay Bridge so who knows. So we're going for lunch. Mollie, my lovely friend, is planning an Italian tasting menu and we are bringing some wine. I will pack a sandwich for James in case he doesn't want to partake. They have a dog so James will enjoy seeing him. Then on Sunday we are going to Evan's birthday party at a local park. Again, James will love that. And on Monday, Labor Day, we will go to dinner at my parents' house. So besides that, just the usual house stuff which I really don't do on weekdays anymore (groceries, laundry, cleaning). Luckily Greg is great about helping with the boys so I can get that stuff done. I'd rather do that stuff myself as it's a break and sort of a work out. Speaking of, maybe I'll run again on Sunday...
